Oaklands Pigs is run by Clare and Robin Wilson who have over 20 years experience of keeping pigs.
So whether it’s selecting stock for meat or breeding, or buying our pig book ‘Perfect Pigs’, you can be sure that you are getting the best advice, gained from years of practical experience and from research working with some of the top technical experts.
Clare & Robin show pigs at many agricultural shows during the summer, and Oaklands Pigs has won many ‘Best in Show’ prizes, as well as top pig in the South of England Show in 2015.
Clare has an eye for selecting stock, and runs a breeding programme to ensure we breed from the best. We also keep several of the rarer blood lines to ensure that we keep the genetic diversity of the rare breeds, critical to their future.
As well as the practical maintenance side of running a farm, Robin handles the technical and regulations aspects, and can help you through what rules you need to obey, to help you not fall foul of the law.
Whilst Pigs keep us busy, we also have a flock of Poll Dorset sheep on the Farm, and have gundogs which we use in the Winter. We have been breeding and training spaniels for over 30 years and indeed Clare judged working gundogs in the main arena at Crufts in 2014, and as a teenager won the best rabbit at the prestigious London Championship Show – (the crufts of the rabbit world), and has appeared on TV programmes like Animal Magic, Saturday Superstore and Blue Peter. So breeding and showing animals of all descriptions are her forte.
Both Clare & Robin also run their dogs in working tests & trials, and Robin won a working test on a Saturday and a water test the following day with his dog Meg – no mean feat.
Clare also works part time as the accountant for a small software company, and Robin has an IT background and when it’s dark outside designs websites for a variety of companies, including of course his local butcher!
So it’s a busy but happy life here at Oaklands Pigs.
